Ultimate HTC One X Guide To Tweaking, Flashing and Modding

In this post I’ll cover everything you want to know about tweaking, Flashing etc. HTC One X. Remember the developers and modders won’t be responsible for anything that happens to your device. Do it on your own risk. You may void your warranty.

UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER

As if now the only way to unlock is through HTCDev.com method.

Go to HTCDev.com website
Register yourself
Click on Unlock Bootloader option
Select “All other supported Models”
Follow the on-screen instructions

Note: To access the Bootloader, Flash etc. mode on HTC One X press your Power Button + Volume key

HOW TO ROOT HTC ONE X

As if now the only way to Root your HTC One X is by flashing custom boot image which require your Bootloader unlocked. Follow the above steps to get your Bootloader unlocked.

The safest method to Root your One X is by Flashing ClockWorkMod Recovery then flashing the SuperSU.zip through Recovery.

You should need Android SDK Installed on your machine or Download Fastboot from here. Create a folder called Fastboot and extract the files into that folder.

Method 1

Turn off your device
Power Button + Volume key to get into Bootloader
Use your volume keep to scroll down to “Fastboot” and Press your Power button to select it.
Open command prompt and point to Fastboot folder
Download Paul’s Interim Clockworkmod Recovery
Type in fastboot flash recovery r1-modaco-recovery-clockwork-touch-endeavoru.img
Now reboot your device
Now download latest SuperSU zip file and copy to your SD Storage
Go to your recovery and Flash the SuperSU to acquire root

Method 2:

This method you can flash the Pre-rooted Kernel directly to acquire root. This method you will not have Recovery it’s just root.

Turn off your device
Power Button + Volume key to get into Bootloader
Use your volume keep to scroll down to “Fastboot” and Press your Power button to select it.
Download the Boot image from Doom’s Advance Stock Kernel
Open command prompt and point to Fastboot folder
Type in fastboot flash boot boot.img and press enter and reboot your device
Now you have acquired root

As if now these are the two methods to acquire root. Till someone find an exploit which allows us to root without unlocking Bootloader.

FLASH RECOVERY ON HTC ONE X

If you want to flash custom ROM’s, Themes, Modified System tweaks you need ClockWorkMod recovery. Follow this method you flash recovery.

You should need Android SDK Installed on your machine or Download Fastboot from here. Create a folder called Fastboot and extract the files into that folder.

Turn off your device
Power Button + Volume key to get into Bootloader
Use your volume keep to scroll down to “Fastboot” and Press your Power button to select it.
Open command prompt and point to Fastboot folder
Download Official Clockworkmod Touch Recovery or Paul’s Interim Clockworkmod Recovery or DooMRecovery for HTC One X
Flash the Recovery from Fastboot mode
Now reboot your device
Till now we don’t have an option to disable Security i.e. S-OFF. Once it releases I’ll update the thread here.

FIND CID AND MID ON HTC ONE X

To flash some ROM’s or RUU’s you need to know your CID and MID numbers. Follow this method to find that out.

You should need Android SDK Installed on your machine or Download Fastboot from here. Create a folder called Fastboot and extract the files into that folder.

Turn off your device
Power Button + Volume key to get into Bootloader
Use your volume keep to scroll down to “Fastboot” and Press your Power button to select it.
Open command prompt and point to Fastboot folder
Type in fastboot getvar cid to find the CID number
Type in fastboot getvar mid to find the MID number

How To Flash RUU on Unlocked HTC One X

Normally you would flash RUU to bring the phone to stock settings. When you flash the RUU (Rom Update Utility) on a unlocked bootloader you’ll give error and abort the process. In order to successfully flash you need to relock your bootloader first.Follow these steps.

Turn off your device
Power Button + Volume key to get into Bootloader
Use your volume keep to scroll down to “Fastboot” and Press your Power button to select it.
Open command prompt and point to Fastboot folder
Type in fastboot oem lock
Now reboot your device and flash the RUU it should work.

How To Flash a Custom ROM on HTC One X

There are a lot of custom ROM available for HTC One X in this article I’ll explain you how to flash a custom ROM. It’s very important to backup your current ROM before flashing a new one. It can be done through Recovery. Before following this guide make sure you have Unlocked your device and flashed Recovery. Refer the above sections.

Update: To flash the boot.img you could use this tool Automated Fastboot Commands For HTC One X

First download any one of the custom ROM download SuperWipe copy it to your SD storage and
Extract just the Boot.img from the custom ROM folder (You can use WinRAR or 7zip)
Turn off your device
Power Button + Volume key to get into Bootloader
Use your volume keep to scroll down to “Fastboot” and Press your Power button to select it.
Open command prompt and point to Fastboot folder (Download Fastboot from here)
Type in
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Select HBOOT that will take to Bootloader
Select Recovery
It will reboot to your Recovery
Do a Nandroid Backup (Select the backup option)
If your coming from Stock ROM then Select Install zip from SD and select SuperWipe.zip (This will delete all the data from your phone only SD data will be retained)
It will wipe everything
Now your ready to flash your custom ROM
Select Install zip from SD and select your Custom ROM downloaded
Once it’s complete select Reboot option and let the device reboot
The initial boot will take some time so don’t panic

How To Flash a Firmware on HTC One X

After the leaked Jelly Bean OTA update in order to flash a Jelly Bean ROM you need to update your HBOOT our XDA developers don’t have HTBOOT for all the devices but only for specific set of Carrier ID. Here is the list so far

There is a simplified and easy method to flash the HBOOT firmware. You could use the Jelly Bean Firmware Easy Flasher & Fastboot Toolkit. The main features are:

Display your CID
Lock Bootloader
Update JB FW, inc HBoot 1.31
Unlock Bootloader
Flash custom CWM recovery
Flash boot.img

Note: Upgrading HBOOT is irreversible processes and if you interrupt the process in between your device will be bricked so be careful before you do it.

ROM Developers used to use Custom RAMDisk i.e. they tweak the RAMDisk so if you flash the default kernel you’ll lose those settings. What you need to do is you need to unpack the Boot.img and replace RAMDisk. To make this easier you could use the zImage Injector v0.1 OR Online Auto Kernel Repack Beta!

  No Root just give you access to modify system files etc. S-OFF will give you access to modify and flash radio etc. As if now we only have an option to Root. People at XDA are still working on a way to S-OFF

hi…i tried to find out wat exactly was the cid number of my sd card using the command prompt method…and it says NONE for cid number…wat is the problem…and hw to solve it? please reply asap! i deleted my backup of stock rom by doin a reset ! and i want to go bak to the stock rom…but nt able to because im not able to find out my cid number…please help me!!

  I was trying to update OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.7-1.28.401.9_release_259295wbmgoi0p47wgsfl6.zip on my rooted One X with 1.28 but fail on CID check becaue I have no CID (disapear when rooted). Used USB and cmd: fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1.img -endeavoru.img to enter CWM and then install zip from SDcard. Then it start but abort when come to CID check.

    I guess the best way is to relock your bootloader and apply the OTA.

    For rooted One X any OTA updates failed on “check_cid” so do as follow:
    download the OTA to your phone, connect to your PC, open the OTA file then navigate to META-INF
    
    comgoogleandroid THEN open updater-script in notepad and remove the following script
    
    assert(check_cid(getprop(“ro.cid”), “00000000″ , “11111111″ , “22222222″ , “33333333″ , “44444444″

Paul’s Interim Clockworkmod Recovery, then later you say we can choose between the official and the interim clockworkmod recovery… do I need to use Paul’s one for the first time or also in the ROOT step I can use the official recovery?

Hi,

I have a question regarding flashing the last update for the HTC One X – I have my phone unlocked, rooted and with the ClockworkMod recovery installed and of course the stock ROM.
I followed your instructions to re-lock the phone and then tried to install the update from within the OS (settings -> updates -> yes…) but now, when the phone restarts it goes in to the fastboot screen and that is it. I have only the options to reboot. How should I have the update installed?
and another question after that – how do I unlock the phone again? Do I need to follow the initial unlock procedure?

  You don’t need to relock boot loader if you follw below inf writtn by me, just edit/remow the CID chack from OTA. If you have installed Clockworkmod Recovery then you get option to install zip from SDcard when you select recovery from fastboot.

I ve been waiting 20-25 minutes and nothing happend. The one x is still in the start section.
It seems that the phone doesnt start, it hung up.
So what can i do, pls answer as soon as possible.

  If your flashing ARHD 6.1.0 then it has issues on first flash. Try to superwipe and flash without apply any custom mod.

Greetings of the day!
Shyam i have unlocked HTC ONE X . I have installed CM9 mod on it. I have 2 issues :
1) i Cant install any other ROM on it lets say MIUI latest one. I have all the right and compatible ROMS it gives me error. ” Get prop ro build Status 7 error ). I have also deleted the same wordings until “;” in the updater script . but still same issue.

2) I have not backed up my orignal ROM when in unlocked by HTC ONE X. Now i want to go back to the settings as it was on Day 1. Can i series of steps to be followed to go back to day 1 HTC ONE X from CM9 MOD ROM

Hey, Thank you very very much for this creamy useful compilation of information on the one X, I’ve already reached as far as being able to flash ROMs with no issues as well as deal with CWM…there is one thing that I try to learn at the moment and I can’t see, would be nice to have it – what is the S-OFF, how to do it and so on!
